about

Recorded live Oct. 9, 2022 inside TOMB, an immersive installation sculpture by Phoebe Knapp. Track features Lee Below on violin from the inner chamber and Lea Fallow with words from the secondary box. Recorded on-site at studioLGX.

TOMB is an homage to the irrational number phi. Knapp, a third-generation rancher known for her large-scale installations and three-dimensional wooden structures, initially created the enormous interactive structure for a solo show at the Yellowstone Art Museum in 2004.

The labyrinth-like interactive structure is composed of three cubic boxes nested inward, from the largest box of 12’ X 12’ X 12’ to the smallest box of 3’10” X 3’10” X 3’10, with all angles determined by phi – the irrational mathematic concept represented as 1.618 repeating into infinity.

TOMB was resurrected and served as a one-night venue for this performance. Artists Matt Taggart and Jon Lodge collaborated on ambient drone and amplified sound, followed by Lee Below and Lea Fallow's collaborative sound and poetry improvisation. Knapp also gave an artist’s talk about the structure.
